Era la diosa de la crianza, la educación, de la fiesta y de la música, del amor y la fertilidad. Era representada como una vaca, o con forma humana con cuernos de vaca y un disco solar entre ellos.
Se la considera hija de Ra y esposa de Horus.
A Hathor se la adoró en Heliópolis y en Déndera.
